AfroPlus Festival Continues Amid Mixed Reactions

The Northwest Stadium in Washington, D.C., has been buzzing with festival-goers since September 4 as the AfroPlus Festival continues to celebrate African music, culture and the diaspora.

However the event has also attracted mixed reactions with some patrons raising concerns about the organization and overall experience.

Heavy rains have reportedly threatened the smooth running of the festival while some patrons have taken to social media to complain about difficulties accessing the festival grounds, crowd control and reports of a stampede amid the star-studded performances.

Davido delivered a major performance on Day One and praised the organizers for creating a platform that puts the African diaspora, Afrobeats and African culture at the centre of the festival experience.

Day Two featured performances from Nigerian stars Tems and Ayra Starr before Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie took to the stage alongside several other artistes. Sarkodie however, expressed concerns about his set and cautioned the organizers to improve certain aspects of the event in future, with reactions from some fans suggesting that all did not go as planned with his performance.

The festival is currently into Day Three with Nigerian superstar Wizkid and several other major acts expected to continue the performances.

As the event remains ongoing concerns from some patrons over security, crowd control, access to the grounds and reports of a stampede continue to generate discussion alongside the performances.

The organizers are yet to issue any official communication addressing the allegations and concerns raised by patrons as of the time of publication.
